As one of the most unique areas of our country, Brevard County boasts a long list of ways for residents and vacationers to spend their time. No other area can offer a location to watch a rocket launch from the comfort of a beach chair, all while sitting along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. After watching a rocket launch and soaking up some sun, a short drive to the Brevard Zoo or taking a dolphin & manatee sightseeing tour can prove to be a great way to spend an afternoon. Whether you’re single, married or looking for family activities in Brevard, there’s something for everyone. With so many one-of-a-kind options, here’s a helpful list of fun activities to consider when exploring things to do in the Space Coast.

Best Things to do in Brevard County

Best Beaches in Brevard County

Situated along 72 miles of gorgeous coastline along the Atlantic Ocean, one of the first things to be mentioned are some of the best beaches in the Space Coast, followed by the abundant list of outdoor activities. Cocoa Beach and Cocoa Beach Pier are great for a surfing lesson from a professional, a chance to win first place in a sand castle competition or simply enjoying a beach chair with your feet in the sand! Cocoa Beach Pier is a historic landmark loaded with shops, live music, restaurants and beach equipment rentals to choose from.

If you’re searching for a spot that will allow you to bring your dog, Canova Beach is the county’s only pet-friendly beach in Brevard (dog’s must be leashed). Jetty Park, Indian Harbor Beach, Satellite Beach (especially for surfing) and Playalinda Beach are also great options for a day spent by the ocean.

Wildlife and Other Outdoor Activities in Brevard

Merritt Island National WIldlife Refuge (owned and maintained by NASA) is an incredible 22 square miles of wetlands teeming with wildlife and trails to explore, and is just one of many preserves in the area. Boating, canoeing or fishing are favorites of wildlife enthusiasts in this area with over 1,500 plants and animals to see. Deep sea fishing is a favorite sport in Port Canaveral, one of the world’s most active cruise ship ports. The largest city in the Space Coast, Palm Bay, is the perfect spot for fishing enthusiasts, as it is home to an abundance of prime fishing locations.

Kennedy Space Center

Of course, the Space Coast isn’t complete without Kennedy Space Center.

Kennedy Space Center is unlike anywhere else in the country — or the world! Even those who wouldn’t consider themselves space enthusiasts will enjoy touring the center and exploring its exhibits. The space program gives the area a unique culture of its own. Not many people can say they regularly watch rocket launches “from their own backyard.” The best part – Kennedy Space Center offers steep admission discounts on certain weeks for county residents!

Arcades, Adventure Parks, Museums, Art and Shopping in Brevard County

Melbourne Beach situates beach-goers walking distance between undeveloped sandy shoreline and excellent shopping, dining and theater experiences. If strolling through quirky art galleries, shopping local boutiques or enjoying delicious dining are up your alley, Melbourne Beach is a great option.

If you’re looking to get out of the sun for a bit and try  indoor rock climbing, laser tag, arcades, go-karts and more….Brevard has you covered! Urban Air Adventure Park has several options for fun activities for the kids and adults, young and old.

With Brevard being the heart of America’s space program, there are several great museums outside of Kennedy Space Center that celebrate our country’s space program including the Astronaut Hall of Fame, Valient Air Command Warbird Museum, and the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Museum. The Brevard Museum of History and Natural Science and Foosaner Art Museum are also some great ways to spend an afternoon out of the sun. And if theater is your thing, the historic Cocoa Village Playhouse is worth checking out!
